The MEST family's fun sibling. Ear Fidelity called its bass the most physical they had heard from an IEM, and reviewers agree this is the model where Unique Melody's bone conduction is easiest to notice. In return, treble and fine detail are not its focus, and it needs a deep fit.

Universal or Custom Fit: which should I choose?

Universal Fit arrives fast and uses ear tips. Custom Fit is moulded to your ears, which solves the MEXT’s biggest variable, the fit, and reviewers say Unique Melody’s bone conduction is more convincing in custom shells.

Can I really feel the bone conduction?

On the MEXT, yes: with a deep fit the shells vibrate subtly with the bass. It adds weight and texture rather than a separate sound.

MEXT or MEST MKII?

MEXT is warmer, punchier and more forgiving. MEST MKII is more detailed and airy with a wider stage. Choose MEXT for relaxed fun, MKII for scale and detail.

Do I need an amplifier?

No. It plays well from a phone dongle or music player, and a balanced 4.4 mm output gives the bass extra control.

Toddlers on the road

Hello, our child tolerated the toddler ear muffs on his little head quite well during the transfers by speedboat and seaplane. They sit nicely on the head, I was just disappointed that they don't hold well on the forehead and kept sliding down over his eyes (even more with a sweaty forehead), even though there's a sort of rubberised strip there. But it looks like they eliminated the noise as they should, because the child wasn't scared of the noise and even fell asleep. So I recommend them, it's just that either a better way of fastening them on the head needs to be worked out, or a different system from the manufacturer.
