Why do I get dizzy after cold water swims? Will earplugs fix it?

Very likely yes. Cold water entering the ear canal triggers something called caloric vestibular stimulation — cold water hitting the eardrum disrupts the balance signals your inner ear sends to your brain, causing vertigo and disorientation during and after long swims. It is a well-documented phenomenon in cold water and open water swimming. Keeping cold water out of the canal removes the trigger, which is what a sealing earplug does. If the dizziness persists, or it happens outside the water, see a GP.

Can I use them after ear surgery, or with grommets or a perforated eardrum?

That is a question for your GP or ENT specialist rather than for us. Watersafe+ is a swimming earplug, not a medical device, and we are not in a position to tell you what is safe for your ears. Take that to your clinician and let them advise you.

How do I insert them correctly?

Ear Plugs for Swimming

I bought 2 pairs for my child to use in her swimming training. Trying to prevent recurrent ear infections. It took a few attempts to get used to wearing them. We had one instance where one of the ear plugs fell out in the pool (but she found it!). We think this is because one of the plugs is slightly squashed (was like that when arrived) so doesn’t fit quite correctly. We swapped for the other pair and was fine. Bit disappointed that one ear plug can’t be used, but other than that good product. If anyone knows how the squashed one can be corrected let me know.

These earplugs for swimming are truelly amazing.

You can generally use them up to around 100 times for swimming, depending on how frequently you wear them and how well you look after them.

There’s no strict expiry date, you can continue using them as long as the silicone remains in good condition and the earplugs still fit securely. If the silicone starts to show signs of wear or the fit changes, it’s time to replace them.

Hello, you don't need to upload the photos anywhere. Just send one sharp photo of your left ear and one of your right ear by email to hello@bollsen.sk together with your order number. They turn out best in daylight, with the ear in profile and close up, the entrance to the ear canal visible and your hair brushed aside. If possible, have someone else take the photos.
