If u want enjoy fun sound, This is it!!! So funny sounds like deep bass headphone.

Andrew P.

Great sounding IEM, very detail, and very bright! I love the midrange! Well done!

Mike

An amazing sound that excels no matter what the genre.
This review is not technical in nature or very detailed.

TLDR; The UM MEXT are wonderful. The sound is full, like Floor-standing speaker, full size cans full. Not muddy, or congested. Not shouty or sibilant. Not for bass-heads, or treble-heads, but everyone who wants to truly experience the full spectrum of their music in a whole being kind of way.

PROS: Everything.

Jonathan P.

Very unique sound from Unique Melody. I can’t get enough of it.
This is my review of the UM MEXT and is very subjective.

UM Mext is a defiantly the most unique IEM I have ever owned. I do not consider myself as an audiophile but I am an enthusiast. I own several high-end IEMs of my taste and all of them have their uniqueness. However, UM MEXT is a kind of it’s own. I cannot really compare this with any IEMs I have due to it’s unique sound.

Starting with the Highs. It produces very pleasant high notes with warm and welcoming sound. It is not as clear as UM Mason FuSang which is the only other UM’s IEM I had experienced but it is less overwhelming and sibilant is almost non existent. When I listen to ‘Someone’s Someone’ by MonstaX, I usually hear lots of sibilant but with Mext, it was not the case. I wish it had used EST rather than BA for it’s highs but I can’t complain with the price.

Mids and very interesting. It starts to have a very hard definition towards the mids and impacts are very significant. Songs like ‘Stair way to Heaven’ by Led Zeppelin and ‘November Rain’ from Guns and Roses, I can feel the strength in the vocals and kicks are very punchy and clear. I could really feel the new OBC driver at work.

Lows and mid lows are the most impressive part of the UM Mext. It is very hard to explain the feeling of the sound in words. It almost feel like when I was at the Eminem concert years back when I was in college. It is almost like ‘feel the music’ rather then listening to the music. My Ikko OH7 was favorite IEM for my party/hip hop music but now, I think I am going to stick with the UM Mext because it simply just don’t compare.

Overall sound stage is very wide on Mext. I used to think my Sony IER-Z1R had wide sound stage (Paired with SPL Marc One) UM Mext is equal or maybe a bit wider.

One thing I regret is that I got a universal version instead of custom and it would have been much more exciting music listening experience if I had the custom version that fits on my ear perfectly.
With the new OBC driver, I look forward to a higher tier with the EST that will bring more clearer and wider sound with punchy feeling of the base.

Excellent bass responce, excellent clarity, great set of earphones

As an owner of the MEST, I can’t help but compared. The MEXT have a smoother presentation. They also have a more impactful low end, not that the MEST was bad at all in this regard. The MEXT is an excellent all rounder performer in general and well worth the asking price. Trust me, I have a variety of entry level, mid-level and high end earphones, as I am a hobbyist. These are excellent and worth the price.

A Great Offering From UM.
Bass: Sub Bass extends low, good quantity and quality, retains some texture, it can be a bit boomy when called upon.
I find the mid bass to be very adaptable. It’s overall smooth, well managed and has good texture and definition, but it can also step up with decent impact and rumble.
Carries into lower mids.

The MEXT faithfully follows the sound signature of the source.

Summary: There is no “perfect” IEM but the MEXT fit my listening preference very well.

Kevin

Perfect bass, wish they would’ve went all in.
It’s very difficult to describe such a personal experience using IEM, The reasoning fit is critical.

First these are pretty large IEM so be prepared to tip roll I found the the stock tips acceptable and found the fit very good and had no problem listening for long sessions without discomfort.

In the end the set is extremely enjoyable to listen to especially if you enjoy bass.

Leland M.

Barring fit issues (the shells are somewhat on the large side), MEXT presents a warm sound with healthy amounts of mid & sub-bass, perfect for your commute. Though not as technically proficient as its MEST brethren, the MEXT instead offers a fun tuning vs the drier sound signatures of the MEST MKI & MKII.

MEXT was never meant to compete technically with the MEST series, but was developed as a more ‘fun’ alternative and to showcase the bone conduction driver.

MEXT offers a bolder bass. Where the MEST series offers a more sub-bass oriented bass with deeper reach, MEXT has more mid-bass and offers an overall warmer & smoother sound with smoother treble for a fatigue free listen.

Outside of the aggressively preformed earloops the PWA cable feels well made with solid hardware.

Phong N.

Engaging, Fun — enjoy long listen sessions.
A great value and great listen especially at their price point.

Warm, engaging, non-fatiguing, enjoyable pair of IEMs. Good bass, they are bass heavy, and midrange. They are not meant to be a technical beast, but perform admirably.

I paired them with: Fiio M17 & M15, Shanling M8, AK SE200 & AK SA700, and iBasso 300DX. Enjoy listening to them on each!

I would recommend these to anyone looking for a fun and engaging music listening session.

Advanced Hybrid Driver Architecture

The Unique Melody MEXT integrates a powerful 6-driver hybrid system featuring 1 dynamic driver, 4 balanced armature drivers, and a proprietary OBC (Original Bone Conduction) driver. This unique configuration allows the MEXT to deliver sound through both air transmission and bone conduction, enhancing depth, impact, and realism.

The OBC driver operates across a wide frequency range (200Hz–7000Hz), adding texture and physical presence to the sound, especially in the low frequencies. Combined with the dynamic and balanced armature drivers, it ensures a smooth transition across the entire spectrum — delivering powerful bass, clear mids, and refined highs with exceptional coherence.

The Power of Bone Conduction Technology

Unique Melody’s proprietary OBC (Original Bone Conduction) technology introduces a new dimension to in-ear audio. Unlike traditional earphones that rely solely on air conduction, the MEXT combines both air and bone conduction to transmit sound directly through subtle vibrations. This innovative approach enhances depth, texture, and spatial perception, allowing you to feel the music as much as you hear it.

Developed through years of research, the OBC driver works seamlessly alongside dynamic and balanced armature drivers to create a more immersive and natural sound experience. The result is a richer, fuller presentation with improved realism — delivering a level of engagement that traditional IEMs simply cannot replicate.

Designed for Comfort. Built for Performance

Ergonomic Design Built for Long Listening

The MEXT is engineered with a scientifically optimized ergonomic shape that sits naturally and comfortably in the ear. Its compact form and carefully positioned internal structure — including the OBC driver placed close to the ear bone — allow for efficient vibration transfer while maintaining all-day comfort. Lightweight and well-balanced, it ensures a secure fit across different ear shapes, making it ideal for extended listening sessions without fatigue.

Premium Cable for Pure Signal Transmission

Paired with the UM Copper M1 custom cable, the MEXT delivers both performance and refinement. Crafted with high-purity OFHC copper, the cable ensures smooth, stable signal transmission for a clean and natural sound. Its soft, flexible construction enhances comfort during use, while the premium finish perfectly complements the design of the earphones — combining durability, elegance, and high-end audio performance.

Why Unique Melody?

Unique Melody hand-builds in-ear monitors and custom monitors for listeners and musicians around the world, and keeps trying ideas other brands do not.

Bone-conduction pioneers

The original MEST brought a bone-conduction driver into an in-ear monitor. Today UM combines up to four driver technologies in one shell.

Materials with a purpose

Carbon fibre, zirconia ceramic, 3D-printed titanium, stabilised wood and walnut: each chosen for how it sounds as much as how it looks.

Custom specialists

UM has built custom monitors from ear impressions for years. Selected models are available as Custom Fit, moulded to your ears.

What reviewers say about the MEXT

The MEST family’s fun sibling. Ear Fidelity called its bass the most physical they had heard from an IEM, and reviewers agree this is the model where Unique Melody’s bone conduction is easiest to notice. In return, treble and fine detail are not its focus, and it needs a deep fit.

What they love

Physical, natural bass texture (Ear Fidelity)
A bone-conduction effect you can genuinely perceive (headphones.com)
Warm, smooth, non-fatiguing midrange
Big stage with height, and a well-made PW Audio cable

Worth knowing before you buy

The shell is fairly large, so it may not suit small ears
Treble is relaxed rather than sparkling
The bass needs a deep insertion and a good seal: take time with the tips

Summarised from independent reviews: Ear Fidelity, headphones.com, Headfonia.

Who is the MEXT for?

For listeners who want warmth and impact: the MEXT trades a little treble sparkle for bass with real physical weight.

Made for

Rock, hip-hop, electronic and live recordings
Bass lovers who want texture, not boom
Long, relaxed listening sessions

The sound in short

Warm and full, with a strong sub-bass shelf
Smooth mids that flatter male vocals
Gentle treble with a big, tall stage

Maybe not for you if

You have small ears: the shell is on the larger side
You want sparkling, analytical treble
You listen mainly for fine detail

MEXT: your questions answered

Universal or Custom Fit: which should I choose?

Universal Fit arrives fast and uses ear tips. Custom Fit is moulded to your ears, which solves the MEXT’s biggest variable, the fit, and reviewers say Unique Melody’s bone conduction is more convincing in custom shells.

Can I really feel the bone conduction?

On the MEXT, yes: with a deep fit the shells vibrate subtly with the bass. It adds weight and texture rather than a separate sound.

MEXT or MEST MKII?

MEXT is warmer, punchier and more forgiving. MEST MKII is more detailed and airy with a wider stage. Choose MEXT for relaxed fun, MKII for scale and detail.

Do I need an amplifier?

No. It plays well from a phone dongle or music player, and a balanced 4.4 mm output gives the bass extra control.

Which ear tips should I use?

With a universal IEM the ear tip decides the seal, and the seal decides the bass and the treble. Try every size and type in the box before judging the sound: the right tip sits snugly without pressure and the bass suddenly fills in. Reviewers say this matters on almost every Unique Melody model.

Which plug should I choose?

Choose it above, before you add it to your basket. 3.5 mm works with most dongles, laptops and music players. 4.4 mm balanced suits dedicated music players and balanced DACs and gives more control. 2.5 mm balanced is for older players that use that socket.

How does ordering a Custom Fit work?

Choose Custom Fit and place your order. We email you our ear-impression guide. A local audiologist takes the impressions (usually charged separately by the audiologist), you send them in using our instructions, and your monitors are hand-built and delivered by DHL Express in about 3 weeks. If the fit is not right, we arrange a free refit.

How fast is delivery?

Unique Melody monitors are sold on pre-order. Universal Fit is delivered by DHL Express within 5 working days. Custom Fit takes about 3 weeks once we have your ear impressions.

Toddlers on the road

Hello, our child tolerated the toddler ear muffs on his little head quite well during the transfers by speedboat and seaplane. They sit nicely on the head, I was just disappointed that they don't hold well on the forehead and kept sliding down over his eyes (even more with a sweaty forehead), even though there's a sort of rubberised strip there. But it looks like they eliminated the noise as they should, because the child wasn't scared of the noise and even fell asleep. So I recommend them, it's just that either a better way of fastening them on the head needs to be worked out, or a different system from the manufacturer.
